Understanding The Basics

Whilst a regular 'brochure' website is a business tool -  nothing more and nothing less,  for some clients their online shop IS their business. It has to work for them.

Every client is different. We ensure we understand the job before suggesting a tool to do that job. Others often start by throwing the latest 'in vogue' phrases at you - as if the solution is defined before the task.

It may well be that in order to achieve your target level of online sales you will not only need a professional e-commerce website, but you will rely to a large degree on Search Engines, particularly Google, to generate visits and therefore orders. We offer comprehensive SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and PPC (Pay Per Click, such as Google AdWords) services.  Click HERE for more.

If your requirements are not a perfect match for our services, software and skills we will be the first to tell you.

Experience Matters

Not only are we one of the UK's longest established Web Design Agencies, but our partners had previous senior roles within industry and Television. We understand business needs, media and communication.

We have worked with hundreds of clients from all sorts of trades, skills and professions. We approach you with a desire to find out about your business and requirements rather than simply from a sales orientated approach.

With an e-commerce site is essential that it's functionality and features fits in with your requirements. There are far more variables here than there are with standard 'brochure' type sites.

We will use our experience to ask the appropriate questions to ensure as far as we can that our solutions meet your requirements, but would ask that you make no assumptions that just because a requirement is obvious to you that it will be available in any given e-commerce software. Take extra care to ensure that our (or anyone else's) quotation covers all of your requirements!

Exclusive cartXtra e-commerce solutions

We have used our decades of experience to develop our own fully integrated cmsXtra CMS (Content Management) system and cartXtra Shop Back End. Our software is both more powerful and easier to use than many, cmsXtra and cartXtra both benefit from more than 20 years of understanding clients real-world needs.

cmsXtra allows us (or you*) to carry out all the necessary day to day maintenance of your site including:

  • Editing (or deleting) main content area of existing pages
  • Creating New Pages
  • Organising the Menu Structure with 'drag and drop' (including creating new second and third level sections)
  • Upload new Slideshows
  • Upload PDF files (for user to download - e.g. brochures or price lists)
  • Create or update Contact Forms
  • Create and update Image Galleries
  • Create and update 'Rollovers' (using graphics with "on" and "off" states as links to pages)
  • Edit Blocks (displaying certain content, such as your logo), facilitating updating of items outside of the main content area and often not user-updateable
  • Undertake SEO (Search engine Optimisation) - Edit 'Titles and Tags'
  • Create a backup of your site content/data.

cartXtra is fully integrated with cmsXtra but adds e-commerce functionality, which enables you to (amongst other things):

  • Define, modify and expand the product Departmental Structure
  • Manage Products, Product Options (such as size and colour), and Prices
  • Define 'Related Products' ('people also bought')
  • Maintain Carriage Rates, including setting different classes (e.g. Next Day and Standard) to different countries.
  • Define discount voucher codes (with fixed amount or percentage off total order subject to minimum spend)
  • Define Title and tags for Search Engine Optimisation - right down to individual product level.
  • Take payments using PayPal or SagePay
  • View Orders, update order status and email customer
  • View Customer Details.

NOTE: for security you will need a static IP address in order to update your website and view orders (other than the emailed copies you will receive). Any Internet Service Provider dealing with business clients (rather than just home users) should be able to provide a static IP address if not already doing so.

Will pinkdylan come out to visit me?

E-commerce sites are invariably more complex than standard 'brochure' websites. We always visit potential clients to discuss their e-commerce requirements in detail, and provide a no-obligation written quotation. We visit at least once more after an order is placed for a project meeting.

We will travel to potential clients within a 50 mile radius of WR8, further if it is a larger project for which we are confident from initial discussions that our cartXtra software is well matched.

What about Cost?

Cost varies depending on the number of pages and products required and certain other considerations.

E-commerce websites start from £1995+vat to include the first 7 information pages and first dozen products, in practice a 'typical' e-commerce site fall within the £2500+vat to £7000+vat range.

Where there is a large number of products to add to the site it is common for the client to keep costs to a minimum by adding the bulk of these themselves, though we can obviously quote for any requirements.

Is the initial cost a one-off or an annual commitment?

The price we quote to build your website is a one-off cost that covers the initial design, build and page population of your site, subject to specific details detailed in our quotation. With e-commerce sites the norm is for us to create the first dozen products, and for the client to add the remaining products themselves, although we can obviously quote to create thousands of products at the outset if that is required.

If you require updates or additions/deletions to your website after it has gone live, then you can either do this yourself using the cartXtra back-end provided*.

You will need to pay us for hosting, support and any on-going provision of software (such as our cmsXtra content management software). You will have to pay this for the life of the site and is typically a modest monthly fee (or annual if you prefer).

E-Commerce Websites | Ecommerce Web Design | Worcester and Nationwide

* In order to maximise security we only allow access to cartXtra and cmsXtra admin systems from known IP addresses. If you want to update your own site frequently it is highly desirable that you have a Static IP Address. This is especially true for e-commerce sites as you will usually be wanting to update products frequently and view orders (although you do receive emailed copies of these). You may already have this, but if not your broadband provider should be able to provide you with one often at no cost of for a fairly trivial additional fee.
