All major search engines have two types of listings, often shown side by side:

1. "Free of Charge Listings" - these rely on the search engines interpretation of what the site is all about after using a "robot" to read the code. Free of charge listings can never be guaranteed because there is no contract with the search engines to provide any service at all - BUT they are usually achievable with at least some phrases.
   
   NOTE: Because of the mechanics of how free listings work, any one web page can only ever hope to be found with a relatively small number of different phrases.
    
2. "Sponsored Listings" - these do not rely on the search engines interpretation of the code, and work on a "Pay Per Click" basis. If someone visits your site by clicking on a sponsored link, then you pay for that visitor. Unlike "Free" listings, you can trigger sponsored listings with certainty when people use the precise search phrases you are targeting, and you can target as many phrases as you wish.
   
   NOTE: With sponsored listings, you can make your site visible to people searching with a very large range of phrases - simply not possible with Free listings.

We will, FREE of charge,  make a serious attempt to achieve "Type 1" (free of charge) listings for every site we develop.

We will:

• Ensure that the critical elements of coding on your home page contain appropriate wording. this will extend to:
  • The Page Title
  • The Description Tag
  • The Keywords Tag
  • "No Frames" (if appropriate  - otherwise the text on the home page itself).
     
• We pay reasonable attention to "word density" which can have a major effect on listings.
   
• We will request the major search engines to list your site - this includes Google, Yahoo and MSN (which between them power most other engines). NOTE: It can take weeks or even months to see the results on free listings.
  
  If you are using our hosting services for a site we have developed then:
   
• We will manually (not using software) resubmit your site to the engines every 4 months.
   
• If at any time (after allowing sufficient time to allow the engines to list the site) you cannot find your site on the search engines at all, we will re register on request.
   
• If your site is listed, but not easy to find with your main phrases, then we will update the code and resubmit at any time on request - but again, no formal guarantees.

We would advise the majority of clients to set aside a budget for optional additional search engine services. For details, follow the links below.

• "Search Engine Positioning Scheme". This involves significant additional work to achieve free listings, plus an element of "pay per click" sponsored links. We create monthly reports to tell you where you are on the engines with our targeted phrases. This is an excellent "all rounder" starting point.
   
• "Pay Per Click Schemes". These are aimed purely at sponsored listings, and can be used as a "stand alone", or as an add on to the search engine positioning scheme above.
